Twenty-three years ago today. A few weeks ago I quoted passages from my riveting fourth grade diary. As the holiday approaches, I thought it would be interesting to return to that diary, as it is both festive an and excellent insight into 1984. As before, I’ve kept all the original grammar and spelling.

Fri., DEC. 21, 1984

Hi! My brother wrote a song lissen the name is 12 days of Christmas:

12 ghost-a-bustings (Ghostbusters)
11 breakers breaking (break dancing)
10 rockers – rocking (rock music)
9 hacky – sacking (hacky sack)
8 Van Halens – jumping (Van Helen -Jump)
7 Men at Work (Group) Men at Work
6 Laupers – Boping (Cindy Lauper-Shebop)
5 Purple – rains (Purple Rain)
4 Cutures Clubing (Cuture Club – group)
3 Jackson’s – Thrilling (Michael Jackson – THRILLER)
2 Crying doves (Doves- purple rain)
And a Cartrige in an Atari. ( — )

I kid you not, this is word for word out of my diary, not a ‘top ten eighties icons’ from VH1. 1984 was a very good year.
